UK & EU customs coordination

Customs clearance

UK and EU customs-clearance coordination for road, air and sea freight, with document review, declaration data, movement references and border handovers managed alongside transport.

How the service is planned

Built from the cargo data, route and delivery requirement.

Carnigo works with experienced customs partners to coordinate the declaration and the physical movement as one process. We check the commercial invoice, packing list, EORI, commodity code, origin, value, Incoterm and representation position before the relevant CDS, transit or safety-and-security submission is arranged.

Customs workflow guide

The declaration data must match the goods and the route.

Customs is not a single document. The required entry and references depend on the direction of travel, customs procedure, country, border system, carrier and whether goods move under transit.

01UK import

CDS import declaration

Before release into Great Britain

The importer, commodity, customs value, origin, procedure and tax position are declared and linked to the arrival route.

02UK export

CDS export declaration

Before goods leave the UK

The export MRN and supporting evidence are coordinated with the carrier, port or movement process.

03Transit

NCTS / T1 or T2 where applicable

Customs control continues to destination

The Transit Accompanying Document and MRN travel with the goods until the movement is discharged correctly.

04Safety & security

ENS where required

Submitted before arrival

Entry Summary Declaration data supports pre-arrival risk assessment and is separate from the customs import declaration.

Planning note: Carnigo coordinates declarations through customs partners. Classification, origin, valuation and licensing remain fact-specific and may require client evidence or specialist advice.

Documents and data

The references behind the movement.

Transport paperwork, customs data and shipment instructions must describe the same goods. Carnigo follows those links through the operating chain.

CDS

Customs Declaration Service

The UK system used for customs import and export declarations, producing the relevant declaration reference and status messages.

MRN

Movement Reference Number

The unique reference generated for a customs or transit declaration and used to connect the entry to the physical movement.

ENS

Entry Summary Declaration

A pre-arrival safety-and-security declaration. It is not the same as the CDS customs import declaration.

GMR / TAD

Border and transit documents

A Goods Movement Reference or Transit Accompanying Document may be required depending on the port, route and customs procedure.

Trusted partner network

Wider capacity. Comparable rates. One Carnigo contact.

Our customs network supports UK and EU clearances around the same transport plan. Carnigo keeps the declarant, haulier, overseas agent and client working from matching invoices, packing lists, references and route details, reducing avoidable border mismatches.
