FCL & LCL ocean freight

Sea freight

FCL and LCL sea freight for UK importers and exporters, coordinated across origin pickup, carrier booking, documentation, customs, ports and final delivery.

How the service is planned

Built from the cargo data, route and delivery requirement.

Carnigo compares sailing schedules and partner rates with the full origin and destination cost in view. We plan LCL consolidation or the appropriate dry, high-cube, reefer or specialist container, align bill of lading instructions and customs data, and coordinate onward delivery after release.

Ocean equipment guide

Choose by volume, weight, loading method and destination cost.

Container specifications vary slightly by carrier and manufacturer. The figures below show common internal dimensions and cubic capacities to help clients brief a shipment before equipment is confirmed.

01LCL

Shared container · charged by volume/weight

From small consignments upward

Suitable when cargo does not justify a full container and can move through consolidation and deconsolidation facilities.

0220ft dry (20GP)

Approx. 33.2 m³ · up to c.28.3 t payload

Internal c.5.90 × 2.35 × 2.39 m

Often selected for dense or heavy dry cargo where a 40ft container would add volume rather than usable payload.

0340ft dry (40GP)

Approx. 67.7 m³ · up to c.28.9 t payload

Internal c.12.03 × 2.35 × 2.39 m

A standard full-container option for higher-volume dry cargo and palletised goods.

0440ft high cube

Approx. 76.4 m³ · up to c.28.7 t payload

Internal c.12.03 × 2.35 × 2.70 m

Adds internal height for lighter, high-volume cargo without increasing the floor footprint.

05Reefer / special equipment

Temperature or out-of-gauge solutions

Equipment-specific

Reefer, open-top and flat-rack equipment require a detailed cargo and operating brief before booking.

Planning note: Payload is limited by the container plate, road weight limits, weight distribution and local regulations. Pallet counts and cubic capacity are not interchangeable.

Documents and data

The references behind the movement.

Transport paperwork, customs data and shipment instructions must describe the same goods. Carnigo follows those links through the operating chain.

MBL

Master Bill of Lading

The carrier-level sea transport document between the ocean carrier and the contracting forwarder or shipper.

HBL

House Bill of Lading

The forwarder-issued document recording the individual shipper, consignee and cargo within the movement.

VGM

Verified Gross Mass

The declared verified weight of the packed container required before loading under the applicable shipping process.

INV / PL

Trade and customs documents

Invoice, packing list, commodity data, origin and licences must align with the shipping instructions and customs entry.

Trusted partner network

Wider capacity. Comparable rates. One Carnigo contact.

Carnigo uses trusted overseas agents and carrier relationships to compare ocean rates together with collection, export handling, origin charges, destination charges, customs and final delivery. That provides a usable landed movement cost rather than an isolated port-to-port figure.

Operational scope

What Carnigo coordinates.

Each booking is built around the confirmed cargo, route, Incoterms, equipment and border process. Responsibilities and handovers are made clear before movement.
